ANTICIPATION: Books of 2019

Every new year comes with a bucket, full of promises for a book-lover. We readers, by the general habit of our nature, read throughout the whole year only to reach the next reading year. New books, new covers, and perhaps new authors. There are just so many books to look forward to – from historical to thriller to fantasy- that it was no easy task for us to short-list only five titles. So, here’re the list of the books, prepared by Ipshita Hazra that really caught our attention.

Seeking women ages 18–32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed.

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave.
Question #1: Could you tell a lie without feeling guilt?

But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking… and what she’s hiding.

Question #2: Have you ever deeply hurt someone you care about?

As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

Question #3: Should a punishment always fit the crime?

From the authors of the blockbuster bestseller The Wife Between Us comes an electrifying new novel about doubt, passion, and just how much you can trust someone.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely

Expected publication: January 29th 2019 by Bloomsbury YA

I faced serious dilemma choosing between Ms. Kemmerer’s fantasy debut and Roshani Chokshi’s The Gilded Wolves. Fantasy lovers ought to check out both of these promising novels. However, the lure of a Beauty and the Beast retelling is undeniable!

Fall in love, break the curse.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.

Break the curse, save the kingdom

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

We couldn’t help but be intrigued by this book cover. A cross between Dexter and Mr. and Mrs. Smith? It’s sure to be a roller coaster ride! lovely

Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams, and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored.

We all have secrets to keeping a marriage alive.

Ours just happens to be getting away with murder.

The Editor
Expected publication: April 2nd 2019 by G.P. Putnam’s Sons

We may have wondered about

From the author of Lily and the Octopus, this book delves into the power dynamics between a successful editor and a debutante author, while portraying a mother-son relationship in what we are hopeful will be a charming tale for us to read.

editor

After years of trying to make it as a writer in 1990s New York City, James Smale finally sells his novel to an editor at a major publishing house: none other than Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Jackie–or Mrs. Onassis, as she’s known in the office–has fallen in love with James’s candidly autobiographical novel, one that exposes his own dysfunctional family. But when the book’s forthcoming publication threatens to unravel already fragile relationships, both within his family and with his partner, James finds that he can’t bring himself to finish the manuscript.

Jackie and James develop an unexpected friendship, and she pushes him to write an authentic ending, encouraging him to head home to confront the truth about his relationship with his mother. Then a long-held family secret is revealed, and he realizes his editor may have had a larger plan that goes beyond the page…
